Introduction to Sitges
Whether you have you been to Sitges before, or coming here for the first time, Sitges really is a great place…
Sitges is sophisticated, chic and cool and with more than 300 sunny days per year, is a great place to visit all year round
Sitges has been described as "The Jewel in The Mediterranean Crown", a "Mediterranean Paradise", because not only is it beautiful and nestles between the warm Mediterranean sea and the backdrop of The Garraf Mountains, it offers 4km of palm fringed boulevard, 17 sandy beaches and bays, a beautiful Marina, a busy festive calendar with some truly amazing fiestas, first-rate tourist facilities, dozens of bars, cafes, restaurants and some great designer shops.
Furthermore Sitges offers the photographer a wide and varied landscape that few places can equal. Location, Location, Location is said to be everything and the “on location” shoots include “landscapes” of The Garraf Natural Park and Bhuddhist Monastary , “seascapes” of Sitges and “cityscapes” of one of Europe´s most beautiful cities, Barcelona, plus of course the fabulous modernista architecture of Antoni Gaudi.
Sitges Artistic History
Sitges was a small fishing village but by the end of the 19th century it had developed into a haven for artists mainly because of the climate of the town and also its vibrant light. Artists such as Santiago Rusiñol. Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miro, Joan Batlle Amell , Antoni Almirall, Joan Roig i Soler and Arcadi Mas i Fontdevila have all been associated in some way to Sitges.
Utopian Sitges – what a great mix!
Both the heterosexual and gay communities really do blend together and everyone feels completely relaxed to be themselves with many of the straight and gay owned businesses adopting an open door policy without prejudice over sexual orientation - now how refreshing is that! |
